Group Writing Project #3 — Theme = T-shirts or Movies (Win Free t-shirts contest for bloggers)

Posted in Contests, Movies, Technology, Tshirts by engtech on April 05, 2007

blog hand gang sign

Group writing projects are a way to connect with other bloggers and increase your readership. Every two months I run an on-going group writing project where bloggers can write around a similar theme. I offer prizes and freebies as incentives for participating (past prizes include Amazon gift certificates, free web hosting, and WordPress.com upgrade credits).

Last December I reached the homepage of Digg.com twice with posts about movies for geeks and t-shirts for geeks. I want to see what you have to say about similar themes. Write a post loosely themed around t-shirts *or* movies to participate in this project (click for some ideas).

On June 20th, 2007 I’ll be picking three (3) of the participants at pseudo-random to win prizes.

  1. First prize will be two (2) t-shirts of their choice from dirtymicrobe.com ($30 value)
  2. Second prize will be one (1) t-shirts of their choice from dirtymicrobe.com ($15 value)
  • And of course, one lucky wordpress.com blogger will win $15 worth of upgrade credits.

How to Participate

  1. Have a blog.
  2. Write a blog post about movies or t-shirts
  3. Link to this post and mention this contest.
  4. You can enter once per blog post.
    • So you can enter multiple times with different lists.
  5. Post a comment on this post with a link to your contest entry.
    • I will be monitoring trackbacks, but posting a comment is the best way to ensure I don’t miss it.
  6. Contest deadline is 12:01 AM EST on June 20th, 2007.

Picking a Winner

  • Winners will be selected at pseudo-random amongst all the entries.
    • I give each post a hidden rating from 1 to 3 stars, the higher the rating the more entries that post will get for the random draw.
    • Random selection is more impartial (and easier) than trying to judge the “best post” out of all — but the quality of your entry does increase your chances of winning.
  • I will be linking to all of the contest entries (example).
  • I will be highlighting my favorite contest entries (example).
  • Halfway through the contest I will be posting the “list so far“.
  • I’ll be considering collaborating with some of the entries to create more Digg-bait. :)

Blatant Self Promotion

Here are some of my favorite posts about blogging:

What to Write About?

You are free to write about anything you want so long as it ties in to t-shirts or movies. The more creative the better. Please do not plagiarize existing lists or sites like CinemATTIC. I’m looking for lists of at least three movies / t-shirts based around a theme.

I do fully encourage you to see what other bloggers have submitted by reading the comments and writing a response to one of their posts (ie: “webomatica thinks these movies are so bad they’re good, this is what I think”). The most important part is for you to have fun with what you’re writing and not to write something just because you could win a prize.

Movies Ideas

  • Best/Worst Lists
    • Around a theme, genre, actor, style, quotes
  • Personal Lists
    • Favorites, moments in your life, inspiring
  • Movies Adapted from Books
  • Movies Adapted from Comic Books
  • Date Movies (based on how the date went)
  • Movies to Watch After a Break Up
  • Kitty Saves the Day — Movies Where Cats Kick Ass
  • Movies that aren’t Porn but Should Be
  • Movies that Dine in Hell compared to 300
  • Movies that Feature Sparta
  • Collected Trailer Remixes on YouTube (or other video site)
    • If anyone wanted to create an original movie trailer remix on YouTube and include engtech.wordpress.com as a watermark that would be amazing.
  • The Worst Ways Computers are Mis-portrayed in the Movies
  • How Hollywood Taught Me How To Program
  • 10 Reasons Why (Famous Actor) Should Dump (Loser) and Marry Me

T-Shirt Ideas

  • Best/Worst/Favorite List
  • My Favorite T-shirts from Online Store (ie: dirtymicrobe.com, thinkgeek.com)
  • T-shirts I Wish They’d Make
  • 5 T-shirts that Look Better on Girls than Guys
  • T-shirts About Robots / Ninjas / Pirates / Geeks / Bloggers / Programmers etc
  • T-shirts that are a Halloween Costume All By Themselves
  • T-shirts that will get you kicked out of school

If you are looking for idea sources for creating a list around t-shirts take a look at these websites (got an online t-shirt store? Leave a comment to have it listed):

or these blogs (got a t-shirt blog? Leave a comment to get it listed)

Great idea! There’s so much freedom in this contest, it’s going to be hard to choose just one idea. I can’t wait to see the results.
