How to Create LOLCats aka MemeCat aka Kittah aka Cat Macros

LOLCats are pictures of cats with funny sayings on them (wikipedia page for LOLCats). On their own they aren’t so funny, but for some reason a page full of them can really get you going.

How to create a LOLCat

1. Get a picture of your cat. Or someone else’s cat.
2. Crop and resize it to a maximum with of 400 to 500 pixels (so that it will fit on a message board or web site).
3. Pick a LOLCat meme saying that is funny (or that you at least think is funny).
4. Use a graphic program to write on the picture with a font in all caps, white text with black outline.
   • I recommend Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop. It’ll cost you a little extra but go big or go home.
   • I use Arial Black with 40-56pt white font using a black stroke outline of at least 2 to 3 px.
5. Save the image as a JPG because it is a photograph (GIFs or PNGs would make a much bigger file size).
   • Be careful with compression! Medium can be ok but too much compression will look bad. Check out my examples further down for a couple of them with too much compression.
