7-Zip: an alternative to WinZip

    Only good for making your own files, not easily shared as not many people have it. It can extract from many file types but it can compress only a few. Once it can compress and decompress the most common file types with the addition of 7z then it could become your sole compression/exthraction program, esp. if they can improve the compression rate of other file types with some tweaks it would be awesome. I find it is only good for personal backups and for that I want my data in perfect condition. Which I cannot achieve with a super high compression rate (all the time). IMO they have a great start but added compatibility to make it your primary solution it would surely take the cake, now its a work in progress, which is great because we can only expect better and more features.
